Custom Inquires

Our furniture is made to order, so if you need specific dimensions, wood choice or design features, please don't hesitate to inquire. All River Works Studio furniture can be custom ordered in any of the following domestic, solid hardwoods: quarter sawn oak in four shades (butternut, beechnut, chestnut, and walnut browns), or cherry, curly maple, and walnut. We also offer mahogany and other imported and exotic woods. The pictured low back Maloof chair is made in Ziricote. We make all efforts to use non endangered and sustainable woods. To order furniture that you see on our website, or to begin a custom order, contact us by phone or email.

Commissioning a piece of furniture is an exciting and rewarding process.  Today, where else do you get to take part in the creation of something entirely new, something never before seen by anyone?

The process starts with an inquiry about your wishes. After we come to an understanding of what you want, I will put your order in the queue. When it comes time for the construction I will contact you and request a down payment of 50%. When the project is completed to your satisfaction the balance will be due upon delivery.

My goal in the initial meeting is to cultivate an understanding of exactly what you envision. If you don't have a strong vision of what you'd like, or perhaps this is a gift for a friend or loved one, I'm absolutely comfortable working with little design input.

Placing an order

Commission work is accepted and can be either a custom design, or a modification of an existing design shown on this website.  If you are interested in talking to Carl about commission please contact him directly to discuss this with him.  All the necessary contact information is available on the Contact Page which you can access by clicking on this link.

The length of time required to build each piece depends on the specifics of each design, so there is no "standard" lead time. Most work requires several months to complete and I generally have a backlog of several months.

Delivery

I do ship my furniture, and have had no issues with shipping large, heavy items via FedEx and UPS.  However, I would much prefer to deliver my furniture whenever possible.  Why?  I imagine it might be similar to why parents insist on helping their son or daughter move into the freshman dorm.  After all the blood, sweat and tears I put into my work, I appreciate making sure it arrives safely and that it is settled into it's new home.

If delivery is not an option, I will build a sturdy, well-padded shipping crate to ensure the safety of your piece en route.  Costs for crating and shipping vary depending on the size and weight of the piece.

Ready

If you are ready to join me in the journey that is commissioning fine furniture, I'd love to talk with you.  Please contact me by email or by phone at (989) 344-1842 to schedule an appointment.
