RIVER WORKS STUDIOS
Carl Schubert
My goal in my creations is to build the most comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, furniture possible. As I progress on this journey I continue to test my skills and try and push the limit of form and function. I am continuously impressed with the wood artisans I encounter in my life, and am inspired evermore to go beyond the basic." - Carl Schubert

THE FURNITURE
Carl offers a variety of fine furniture creations including chairs, cabinets, tables, and other hand crafted items. These are available in a selection of different woods, including cherry, maple, wenge and zebrawood. Other wood types, stain colors, and finishes are available. Click the images below to see more.
cabinets
This piece is beautifully and artfully designed with tasteful proportions, wonderful accents, magnificent contrasting woods and is very practical and useful. It features original designed handles and inside upper stemware rack with wine storage.
Chairs
This classic design was original adapted by Morris & Company from a chair in England around 1866. It is an early form of a reclining chair and features a hinged back which is adjusted between the fixed arms by a row of pegs in the rear of the arms.
TABLE
This table is made with a combination of cherry wood, curly maple and wenge wood accents. The raised center section is a light, highly figured curly maple trimmed with the darker wenge wood. The center drawer has an original hand carved handle.
OTHER
Your choices are not limited to traditional furniture. Other fine wood crafted items are available, or can be commissioned. This is a custom game case with hand cut dovetailed joints, brass hardware and made from wenge and zebra wood.

Location
River Works Studios
We are located in the northern part of Michigan’s lower peninsula near the town of Grayling. The headwaters and mainstream of the AuSable River flow within easy driving distance of Grayling. The beautiful AuSable River is one of Michigan’s most desirable destinations for kayaking, canoeing and fishing. There is no better place to fly fish than the AuSable River’s clean and cool waters. There is one section of the river, about nine miles long, that fishermen call the “Holy Waters”, because of the incredible abundance of trout. The “Holy Waters” is regulated by year-round fly-fishing only and catch-and-release only. The river flows through scenic woodlands, perfect for spotting all kinds of wildlife and birds that makeup this diverse ecosystem. Perhaps the best way to see the true wilderness is to use a canoe or kayak, which can be rented at the various nearby liveries. Each year in July, the AuSable River hosts the AuSable River Canoe Marathon that draws hundreds of competitors. The 120-mile competition is fierce-intended for athletes in top shape who are expert canoers, and continues nonstop, through day and night until the finish line at Lake Huron.
“Whether people are fully conscious of this or not, they actually derive countenance and sustenance from the ‘atmosphere’ of the things they live in or with. They are rooted in them just as a plant is in the soil in which is planted. ”
